Welcome to the official launch of the 2012 Family Fun Night fundraising campaign!
Family Fun Night will be held on Thursday March 1st, from 5:00pm-8:00pm. For those unfamiliar with this event, Family Fun Night is the largest single fundraising event at Northlea. It is a night of fun for kids of all ages! Family Fun Night turns the school into an indoor carnival, with games, food and loads of entertainment. Classrooms get involved by hosting room activities, such as the fish pond and nail salon. The funds raised go toward numerous curriculum-based school initiatives that support various Northlea departments, including Technology, Physical Education and the Music and Theatre programs.
Last year, Family Fun Night launched many new initiatives, and we are happy to announce that many of them will be back, based on their popularity and success. Look forward to seeing the Photo Booth as well as the Raffle, Silent Auction and Art Auction.
Now—the big question is how can you help?
There are numerous ways, including: sponsorship, social series, donating goods to the raffle and silent auction and/or volunteering your time. It takes over $10,000 and hundreds of hours of volunteer work to put on an event of this size. It cannot be accomplished without a team effort from the entire school.
SPONSORSHIP
For a full list of our Sponsors to date, please check out the link here.
In the past two years, we have had tremendous success in introducing sponsorship components for Family Fun Night, and have been greatly supported by several local businesses and politicians.
CLASSROOM SPONSORSHIP
Last year we launched a new sponsorship initiative, offering Classroom Sponsorship and based on its success, we are once again offering the opportunity to sponsor a classroom activity, giving your family or your business the ability to sponsor an activity, perhaps one that your child’s classroom is involved in, and get public recognition for your generosity.
DETAILS OF CLASSROOM SPONSORSHIP
The cost to sponsor a standard classroom activity is $200.
Sponsorship includes the following:
- In-classroom signage with your business logo or picture of your family
- Hallway signage (directly outside the sponsored room) with your business logo or picture of your family
- Listed as a sponsor on the Northlea website in the Family Fun Night Sponsor Gallery
- Recognition in all Family Fun Night sponsor-related emails to the school and in handouts given out at the event itself
Another option for classroom sponsorship is to co-sponsor a room with another family. For example, a classroom could be sponsored by The Jones Family or it could be sponsored by the Jones and Brown Family with both of those families sharing the cost of the classroom sponsorship. What a great way to support the school and get your name “in lights” at the same time!
Please contact Lynda Debono (lynda@debono,ca) to find out more information about classroom sponsorship or to receive a copy of the 2012 sponsorship package. Sponsorship is filling up quickly, so don’t wait too long! Last year we sold out of all event and classroom sponsorships. We would like to have all sponsorship confirmed by February 10th. We hope that we can count on your support!
RAFFLE/SILENT AUCTION ITEMS
One of the most successful and popular areas of Family Fun Night is the raffle and silent auction. This year, we hope to expand the silent auction and to do so, we need your help! We are always looking for donated items such as:
- Tickets to major sporting events or concerts
- Electronics
- Gift Certificates
- Donation of a cottage or chalet rental
We are still in urgent need of more donations. Please contact our coordinators Jen King at ac.ocitapmysnull@gnik.nej or Kim Taylor at moc.sregornull@rolyatmik if you have sports tickets, gift baskets, promo items, lessons or even snow shoveling or leaf raking to donate.
SOCIAL SERIES
Parents and kids alike look forward to attending the fantastic Social Series events hosted by families throughout the neighbourhood. We are looking for volunteers to host an event in their homes or at an external venue. You can showcase a talent, have a games night, a lunch, a dinner or anything else all that you can think of! Hosts also get the added benefit of pre-buying two tickets to another event of
their choosing.
One other thing to keep in mind is Parties with a Purpose. If you are hesitant to host something and have no control over the guest list, organize your guests before hand and agree on a donation that everyone is comfortable with. Are you planning a girls night out? Why not collect some extra funds and donate them to the Social Series? Do you get together with friends to watch the Oscars or a major sporting event? Turn them into a party with meaning – have fun and fundraise for Northlea at the same time! All you need to do is register them with the Social Series Coordinators and submit the funds collected after the party!
For more information on Parties with a Purpose, or to sign up to host your own Social Series, please contact Nancy Baillie or Melanie Copp-Dobrijevic at the coordinates listed below. We would love to hear from you.

CLASSROOM ACTIVITES
Our class parents are all hard at work finalizing their plans for Family Fun Night and everyone is getting excited about this year’s events. The kids are definitely going to have a blast! Don’t forget to look through your stuffed animals and come up with a few items to donate to the Pawsitively Pets mock veterinary clinic. We are looking for clean, gently loved stuffies to offer to the kids that forget to bring their own pets. A donation box is located outside Room 113 and will be there until February 24th.
The book fair is back! Make sure you take a moment out of your busy Family Fun Night evening to visit our fantastic book fair, with selections for all ages. We are looking for donations for this event, so take advantage of this opportunity to do a little spring cleaning and help make this the best book fair ever. Books of all types – kids, tweens, adult fiction and adult non fiction – in good condition can be taken to Miss Capes’ room 214.
You will also start to see requests from your class parents for volunteers to help run the events. Just a half hour of your time makes a huge difference and helps ensure that one person doesn’t get stuck in a classroom for the entire evening, so please help out wherever you can.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Last, but certainly not least, we need your time! Please consider signing up to volunteer to work a shift or two, before, during or after the event. As mentioned above, it takes over 100 parents to organize Family Fun Night and we currently are in great need for volunteers. Please contact Erica or Gina, as soon as possible, to coordinate a time and location for your shift.
