Safety Foot Patrol Update
Please see a note from Val Cooke, our parent co-ordinator of our new safety patrol program. Thank you to Val and her crew for helping us to keep Northlea safe and for providing leadership opportunities for our students!
We are very pleased with the new Safety Foot Patrol initiative at Northlea. 25 students enrolled and were trained and certified by Toronto Police. You may have noticed them in their bright lime green vests on a daily basis between 8:30-8:45! They are currently patrolling the corner of Rumsey and Divadale where several kids cross on a daily basis.
You may have noticed that the patrollers have 2 stances:
Ready Position: with their arms out at 45 degree angle- this signals that they are about to cross pedestrians.
At Ease: with their arms behind their backs and slightly turned away from traffic-this signals that cars are free to engage and no pedestrians are waiting to cross.
We kindly ask that you respect the patrollers decision as to when to cross. This will ensure proper communication with drivers as well as provide for a safer arrival on school property.
The patrollers are from grade 6-8 and are all very excited at this opportunity to volunteer and show leadership within their community. If you are interested in being a parent volunteer, please email Val at firstname.lastname@example.org
We thank our Safety Patrol crew for helping keeping Northlea’s students safe!
Enjoy your Easter Weekend everyone,
David and Jane
