Students in Ms. Butts’ Grade 5 French Immersion class will be helping to educate students about food allergies. They will be visiting classrooms to make a presentation about this topic and will also be running an Allergy-Free Food Drive next week as Canadian food banks often do not have enough allergy-free foods to help feed those in need. The class will be making announcements and we ask that you assist by having your child bring in items to their classroom that reflect the criteria listed below. Students in F5 will be picking up these items periodically throughout the week.
Monday – Gluten-Free items (ideas – gluten free pasta, crackers, granola bars)
Tuesday – Dairy-Free/Soy-Free items (ideas – coconut milk, granola bars, rice)
Wednesday – Tree nut and peanut free items
Thursday – Any allergy-free foods (free of eggs, shellfish, tropical fruits, nuts, dairy, soy)
As well, we ask that students try to wear teal on Friday May 19th to show their support!
On Saturday May 20th, the CN Tower, Niagara Falls, City Hall, and the Toronto sign at Nathan Philips Square will all turn “teal” in support of Allergy Awareness week. Please visit www.foodallergy.org for further information.
