I have worked in the TDSB since 1990 and began my teaching career at Jesse Ketchum Public School. After six years I moved to Parkdale Public School where I taught Intermediate and Primary students.
I became a Vice- Principal in 1998 for two years at Market Lane Public School, and then became Principal there for two more years before taking paternity leave for three months to stay home with my third child.
In January 2003, I became the Principal of Hodgson Senior School. I worked at Hodgson for seven and a half years and was there until I moved onto Winona Senior School in September 2010 where I spent three years as Principal before coming to Northlea.
As an educator, I believe you need to create a school environment where students take risks, discover who they are and grow as people. The school community needs to support staff to ensure they are provided with the resources to meet the academic and emotional needs of their students. Parents play an integral part in developing a vision and direction for the school and together with staff form a partnership in supporting all student learning styles and needs.
During the summer, I am an Assistant Director of a summer camp and throughout the year I enjoy personal training and coaching athletics.
I am excited to be joining the Northlea community. The outstanding reputation the school has is a tribute to the great work of staff, parents as well as the students.

For over 20 years, I’ve spent most of my teaching career in Scarborough, teaching French Immersion in the Primary and Junior grades. Quand j’ai enseigné les sciences à l’école Brimwood Blvd, j’ai fait sortir les élevés pendant mes classes de sciences. J’ai toujours aimé l’éducation en plein air.
After one year teaching outdoor education at TDSB’s Scarborough Outdoor Education School in Kearney, Ontario, I left Immersion to teach at Hillside Outdoor Education School in the Rouge Park.
As Site Supervisor/Assistant Coordinator at Hillside and later, the Toronto Urban Studies Centre, I collaborated with classroom teachers to promote responsibility for cultural diversity, biodiversity, habitats, and engagement in outdoor activities to benefit the physical, mental and social health of students. I believe all students are capable learners and can achieve success at school and have promoted evidence supported teaching practices that are guided by brain-based research.
Although I have educated teachers and parents that ‘Nature Deficit Disorder’, a term coined by Richard Louv, can be prevented by spending more time outdoors, as a parent of a 16-year-old son, I understand how difficult it can be to balance outdoor time with electronics. Limiting screen time is effective, along with participation in outdoor sports and spending time with family in nature. My vitamin N, (nature), is acquired through cycling, kayaking, skiing, and gardening.
This is my first position as Vice-Principal. I am eager to participate in growth and learning opportunities; to analyze educational data on student performance for the purpose of identifying trends, strengths and weaknesses to ensure the implementation of Northlea’s School Improvement Plan.
I am honoured to have the opportunity to work with the great staff at Northlea and I look forward to meeting the students and their families in this wonderful community.
