Principal

Kathy Ribeiro

I have been in education for over 20 years and an administrator for the last 14 years at all levels from JK to Grade 12. I am an energetic leader who brings strength and warmth to my role. I am committed to developing a positive, respectful, safe and nurturing environment for the Northlea students. I am a strong advocate for progressive discipline and believe my approach is firm but fair.

My dedication and commitment to the community have been hallmarks of my leadership. I believe in strong community and partnership connections. I have worked with parents, child care and school staff on a number of committees to effectively address equity and safety issues. I have worked with these groups and developed successful applications to:

  • make school grounds green;
  • redesign school play spaces;
  • change signage around schools; and
  • achieve Platinum Certification in the TDSB EcoSchools Program.

I have also established strong partnerships with the following groups:

  • Toronto Police Services (PSP and ESP)
  • University of Toronto (OISE)
  • Toronto Public Health (Eat Smart)
  • Ministry of Citizenship (SEPT Program)
  • Licence to Learn (L2L)

I am a true believer in the full child and the direct relationship between healthy nutrition, active living and academic achievement. At my previous school I facilitated a nutrition program, orchestrated healthy Snack Days and achieved Eat Smart certification for the school.

I feel truly honoured to be the Principal at Northlea and look forward to continuing to work with the Northlea parents on a number of exciting initiatives again this year!
