Dear Northlea teachers, staff, students, parents and caregivers,

At our upcoming Home and School Meeting on November 20th we will vote on where we would like to allocate the fundraising dollars that are collected throughout the school year. As well, we will also determine which organizations we will support with the Philanthropy Fund collected in the 2023/24 school year.

  1. Fundraising for the 2024/25 School Year

The Northlea community has always been a strong supporter of fundraising events throughout the school year. This support assists the administration in providing Northlea with additional funding to enhance the school environment and activities. In the past, the Home and School Association (“H&S”) presented the Northlea Administration with fundraising dollars to support the following:

  • Chromebooks
  • Forest of Reading Program- A reading program for both English and French Students
  • Scientist in the School and Logics Academy programs
  • Dance and drama programming
  • Sports Equipment and Apparel
  • Kilometer Club
  • Kindergarten Playground
  • Artist in Residence (Mural at Door 2)

These are just a few of the programs that we have supported over the years with the generous support of the community at our fundraising events.

What can you do?

Typically, we are able to fund a wide variety of projects, equipment purchases, and activities. This year however, a major focus will be the funding of the schoolyard/sports-field revitalization, with a smaller than average allocation across remaining proposals deemed essential for the enrichment of our children’s school experience. That said, we still welcome proposals of all scopes for consideration.

Please submit your proposals by Monday, November 18th, using the proposal form attached.

  1. Philanthropy Fund

In addition to fundraising for our local initiatives, we also put aside 7% from every fundraising event towards a Philanthropy Fund to support organizations that aren’t as fortunate as our community. In the past we have supported the Thorncliffe Park School Breakfast Program and rebuilding a school Library in Alberta devastated by a forest fire as a couple examples.

What can you do?

We currently have approximately $3,500 that we’d like to donate to an organization or multiple organizations. At our Home and School Meeting on November 20th we will be asking for suggestions on organizations to distribute the funds to.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact the Northlea Treasurer Team- Jen Lee, Jen Hong, Jen New, and Michael Fok at the following mailbox: northlea.treasurer@gmail.com

We are excited to see everyone on November 20th whether or not you’ve put forward a proposal!
